If you have public health insurance in the EU, the EEA or Switzerland, you can use the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You will usually find the EHIC symbol on the back of your health insurance card. Your health insurance at home will cover the costs of medically necessary treatment during your holiday in Germany. If you have private health insurance abroad or come from a non-EU country, you should check your insurance coverage. Look for information on the geographical scope of your health insurance in your policy. If it says “Worldwide” or “Europe” and Germany is not explicitly excluded, you are covered. Alternatively, you can call your health insurance provider's service hotline and ask whether Germany is part of the geographical scope of your plan.
You are on the safe side if you take out the specialized GUEST Insurance for the duration of your stay.
